"A Father's Wise Heart" Proverbs 4

I. Glorious hand-off

“Who are the successors we are preparing to stand on our shoulders and build on the foundations we have laid – as our fathers did with us?... It’s not happening.” George Barna

Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart.  You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.                                                                                                             Deuteronomy 6:4-9

II. Get wisdom

     A. Source and benefits

     B. Wrong place to look

     C. Guard it well

And he said to them, “Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one's life does not consist in the abundance of his possession."  Luke 12:15

And he said, “What comes out of a person is what defiles him. For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery,  coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.”       Mark 7:20-23

III. Growing wise hearts

“The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple…”     Psalm 19:7

“And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding…" Colossians 1:9

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.”    James 1:5
